Robert Nozick (19382002) a studiat la Columbia University si la Princeton University, unde a obtinut si titlul de doctor in filozofie in 1963. A predat la Princeton si Rockefeller University, a fost Fulbright Scholar la Oxford (19631964) si Fellow la Center for Advanced Studies in Behavioral Sciences (19711972). Din 1969 a fost profesor la Harvard University. Prima lui carte si cea mai cunoscuta, acum un titlu de referinta , Anarchy, State, and Utopia, a fost premiata cu National Book Award in 1975 si l-a consacrat ca unul dintre cei mai importanti reprezentanti ai scolii anglo-americane de filozofie politica.
